Unrivalled on road and track, the 2900 B also appeared in Speciale form and was entered for the 1938 Le Mans 24 hours race with a special aerodynamic superlight body also by Touring. Despite the fact that they had outclassed their opponents, drivers Biondetti and Sommer were held up in the closing stages of the race by a blown tyre. Sommer managed to get the car back to the pits and Biondetti took off again. Having managed to put an amazing 160 km between him and his nearest rival, however, a broken valve put him out of the race. He had, though, achieved a fastest lap time of 154.78 km/h.
